Overview

Garmin Africa Eastern Coastal and Inland Charts BlueChart g3

Introduction

The Garmin BlueChart g3 Eastern Africa chart delivers precision navigation for the entire eastern African coastline, Madagascar, and major inland lakes. Delivered on microSD/SD card (model 010-C0747-20), this navigational database combines official hydrographic data with private surveyed sources to provide the depth certainty and coastal detail that ocean-bound mariners need for safe passage through complex waters from Djibouti south through the Mozambique Channel and Indian Ocean approaches.

Key Features

  • Depth range shading displays up to 10 distinct depth tiers for rapid visual assessment of underwater terrain
  • Ultra-fine contours map depths to 1-foot intervals, revealing underwater structures invisible on standard charts
  • Customizable shallow-water shading allows you to set depth alerts matching your vessel's draft
  • Complete coverage of Eastern Africa coastline, including Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe approaches, Madagascar, and major inland waterways
  • Official chart data integrated with private surveyed sources for enhanced reliability in remote regions
  • microSD/SD card format compatible with Garmin chartplotters, GPS units, and marine displays
  • Ongoing chart update guarantee program with discounted annual revisions to keep data current

Data Insights

Boating accidents linked to navigational errors account for approximately 60% of all maritime incidents. The BlueChart g3 mitigates this risk through precise depth visualization and high-resolution contours that reveal hazards like sand bars, reef formations, and channel obstructions common to Eastern African waters. Mariners navigating swamps, coastal canals, marina approaches, and deep-water passages benefit from the combination of official hydrographic surveys and corrections from private sources, ensuring that chart data reflects actual sea conditions rather than outdated territorial records.

Usage Instructions

Insert the microSD/SD card into your compatible Garmin chartplotter or marine GPS unit. Verify that your device firmware is current before first use to unlock full functionality of the advanced shading and contouring layers. Periodically check Garmin's update portal for new chart editions and reload the card to maintain accuracy as surveys improve and coastal conditions change.

Design & Material

The BlueChart g3 distribution format prioritizes simplicity and durability. A single microSD/SD card contains the entire Eastern Africa dataset and installs directly into any compatible Garmin device without software installation or external processing required.

  • Durable flash memory card format resists physical wear and retains data indefinitely without power
  • High-quality chart compilation merges official government hydrographic offices with verified private surveyed data
  • Seamless compatibility across Garmin's entire marine GPS and chartplotter product line
  • Intuitive interface overlays depth shading, contours, and custom safety boundaries without requiring manual configuration
  • Comprehensive coverage spans from the Horn of Africa through the Mozambique Channel, including all major ports, harbors, and inland water systems
  • Compact card design fits in standard marine device slots and stores easily aboard any vessel

Final Verdict

The Garmin BlueChart g3 Africa Eastern Coastal and Inland Charts is essential equipment for mariners navigating this region's challenging and undercharted waters. The combination of 1-foot contours, multi-tier depth shading, and integrated official and private survey data delivers the navigational confidence required for fishing, cruising, or commercial transits through the Indian Ocean and Eastern African coastline. Order this chart today and eliminate guesswork from your navigation planning.
