Overview

Garmin GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 Open Array Radar and Pedestal (K10-00012-26)

Introduction

The Garmin GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 Open Array Radar delivers professional-grade detection capabilities for offshore navigation, combining selectable power outputs with a maximum range of 96 nautical miles to give you complete situational awareness in challenging maritime conditions. Built for commercial and serious recreational mariners, this radar system uses advanced scanning technology to cut through sea clutter, accurately identify weather systems, and track surrounding vessels with precision that directly improves safety and navigation efficiency.

Key Features

  • Selectable power output in 4 kW, 12 kW, or 25 kW configurations for flexible detection requirements
  • Maximum detection range extending to 96 nautical miles with 25 kW setting
  • Commercial-grade wind rating up to 100 knots for reliable operation in severe weather
  • MARPA (Mini-Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) target tracking monitoring up to 30 simultaneous targets
  • True Echo Trails function displaying historical target positions to reduce motion distortion and improve tracking clarity
  • Dual rotation speeds at 24 and 48 RPM for customized scan rates based on navigation requirements

Data Insights

The Garmin GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 employs Scan Averaging Technology that reduces false target detection by filtering sea clutter with up to 75% effectiveness. This clutter rejection capability, combined with enhanced target-size processing, enables mariners to interpret object shapes with remarkable precision across all range scales—a critical advantage when operating in congested shipping lanes or coastal waters where sea state conditions can mask legitimate contacts.

Usage Instructions

For optimal performance, mount the radar unit at sufficient height to achieve an unobstructed 360-degree view of the surrounding area. Calibrate gain and filter settings regularly to adapt to changing sea conditions, and utilize the split-screen dual-range display capability to monitor both long-range traffic patterns and close-range targets simultaneously. Dynamic Auto Gain automatically adjusts sensitivity levels, though manual fine-tuning during varying weather conditions maximizes target separation and reduces unnecessary clutter on your display.

Design & Material

The GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 features a compact, modern open-array design that integrates seamlessly with contemporary vessel layouts while maintaining the rugged construction demanded by offshore environments. The system prioritizes both functionality and durability through marine-specific materials and engineering.

  • High-grade marine-rated aluminum and stainless steel construction resisting corrosion in saltwater exposure
  • Narrow horizontal beamwidth antenna design enabling precise target separation and reduced false echoes
  • Quiet open-array drive motor minimizing mechanical noise during extended operational periods
  • Advanced adaptive filters automatically optimizing radar performance across variable sea state conditions
  • Flexible display interface with customizable layout options for individual navigation preferences and workflow integration
  • Pedestal-mounted configuration allowing 360-degree rotation and simplified installation on mast or hardtop structures

Final Verdict

The Garmin GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 Open Array Radar and Pedestal is a mission-critical investment for mariners who demand accurate, reliable target detection in demanding offshore conditions. Its combination of selectable power outputs, advanced sea clutter rejection, and robust commercial-rated construction delivers the performance and confidence required for safe navigation in high-traffic waters. Choose the GMR 1234/1236 xHD3 to equip your vessel with radar technology engineered specifically for serious ocean navigation.
