Overview

GPSMAP 64

Fully Loaded Handheld GPS Partner with GLONASS Support

  • Outdoor optimized sun-readable 2.6 inch color display
  • All-new GLONASS and GPS quad helix antenna for faster lock
  • Larger 4 GB internal memory with microSD card expansion support
  • Loaded with 250,000 geocaches and more from geocaching.com

The GPSMAP 64 is packed with a high contrast 2.6 inch display that can be read even in direct sunlight. It fully supports Bird’s eyeview satellite imagery and Garmin’s customizable maps for a personalized trekking experience. Designed to last, this gadget is both rugged and waterproof and features a quad helix antenna for worldwide reception.

The world in your hands

Explore the world with ease with Garmin’s BaseMap support. The device supports shaded relief so there are no areas in the world you can’t travel to. The high contrast display allows you to navigate using geotagged photos taken by you or other people and loaded into the internet.

Garmin’s GPSMAP 64 features a wide memory space for a larger range of maps as well as support for high detail custom maps, allowing you to navigate every terrain like never before with tips and tricks from your fellow travelers as well as geocached locations all over the world.

Get Locked Anywhere You Are

With both GPS and GLONASS support, the quad helix antenna new to the Garmin GPSMAP 64 will allow you lock and stay locked no matter where you are in the world. More satellites to check means a more accurate lock and a faster lock in time so that you don’t have to go snooping around for the limited GPS satellites. Even if your trail leads you under the shade of trees or near tall structures, you can bet that you can still maintain a firm grip of where you are with the combination of GPS and GLONASS.

More Maps, More Fun

The world is constantly discovered and rediscovered as every terrain changes and more structures and landmarks in the world are made. As such, mapping is a business where the layout could constantly change, be it a drastic one or a minimal change.

With the ability to continually add and replace maps in the GPSMAP 64, you can bet that you are always updated with the latest mapping and terrain details across the globe. With support for more maps like TOPO 24K and 100K, you can hit the trail with ease. If your travels ever bring you to the vast seas of the world, you can rely on Garmin’s BlueChart® g2 maps. Once you hit a town and you feel lost, just whip out your GPSMAP 64 and launch your City Navigator NT® maps.

The Ultimate Treasure Hunt

Geocaching is a fun game that enthralls casual travelers and experts alike. It is like a worldwide game of treasure hunt where people tag certain locations for you to navigate and find across the globe. Each hunt could lead you to an unforgettable experience or the most memorable view.

Garmin includes about 250,000 geocaches right out of the box when you get a GPSMAP 64. You can further expand that list with millions more and counting from geocaching.com. With a 16 hour battery life that can be expanded though a couple of regular AA batteries or their rechargeable NiMH battery, you can bet that you have plenty of juice to keep going on any trail.

Start Planning

Garmin’s BaseCamp service allows you to easily plan, explore, relive, and share every adventure you take your GPSMAP 64 with. The service allows you to organize all the maps, waypoints, landmarks and destinations conveniently from a computer, and it synchronizes well with your GPSMAP 64 with a full color view of your entire trip.

GPSNation's Take

For a device that has been deemed the most basic of the GPSMAP 64 series, Garmin did make sure to cover all of the basics necessary for a hike. While the looks certainly won’t tell you that you upgraded your device especially if you’re coming from a 62 series, you can bet that all the necessary upgrades were made under the hood.

GLONASS support alone is enough reason to get this device, and with more memory for storage, you can be sure to always have all the maps you need right at the palm of your hands. The display also serves you well, especially if you are going somewhere particularly bright. Unless you need a specific feature in the S and ST version of this product, all you really need is already right here in the GPSMAP 64.
