Full Access to the Terrain
Garmin included a full suite of TOPO U.S. 100K maps in the Garmin GPSMAP 64st. It includes enough details about the land along with man-made and natural structures. You can be sure that you are always ready for the challenges of the U.S. soil, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Couple that with BirdsEye Satellite Imagery and you gain full access to what lies in store for you no matter if you are hiking, climbing, or simply taking the land by storm such as national, state and local parks and forests, along with terrain contours, elevation information, trails, rivers, lakes and points of interest.
Never Get Lost
The GPSMAP 64st is equipped with all the tools you need to ensure that you know exactly where you are in a map. You can get a quick lock to a wider range of satellites thanks to dual support for GPS and GLONASS. Even under the cover of trees or beside tall structures, you can maintain your lock and keep track of where you are.
Thanks to the 3 Axis compass, you get our bearings no matter what angle you look. With the altimeter, you can keep track of how high you’ve gone, which is great for hikers and climbers. The barometer helps you in getting a better understanding of your surroundings and your current atmospheric pressure, allowing you to predict weather patterns in your immediate area.
Connected without Wires
We are at the age of wireless technology. As such, Garmin made sure that the GPSMAP 6st is in with the times with its new wireless capabilities. Thanks to the Bluetooth and ANT+ radios in the device, you can stay connected with a varied list of devices that support ANT+ and Bluetooth protocols like Garmin’s VIRB camera, your home PC, and your own smartphones. Garmin offers a wide range of ANT+ compatible devices that can help you keep an even clearer picture of your current status.
Expand your Maps
Even with the preloaded TOPO U.S. 100K at your disposal, a true world traveler would make sure to have more maps for the right purpose. With 8 GB of storage to use, Garmin designed the GPSMAP 64st with the ability to add more maps for the right purpose. Create your own custom maps for your perfect trip, or add a Bluechart map if you need some guide in the waters, while you can add a City Navigator NT map when you reach an urban area. No matter where you are, you can have the right map for the job at your fingertips.
Not only are you able to add maps, but you can also create a complete traveler’s adventure plan with Garmin’s BaseCamp software. You can create and plan out maps with organized waypoints, routes and tracks for your entire trip. All of that can be viewed on your GPSMAP 64st as well as online.
Have Fun on the Trails
Enjoy a bit of a treasure hunt when you go out for a hike. You never know what you may discover, and what treasures you could unfold. Geocaching is a very popular activity between world travelers, and with your Garmin GPSMAP 64t, you get 250,000 locations already installed with millions more to gather from geocaching.com.
Keep it Juiced
GPSMAP 64st supports two types of power sources. The first one is the rechargeable NiMH battery which usually lasts about 16 hours of use. If that isn’t enough and you are too far from a place to charge, you can swap it out with a couple of AA batteries that you can score from just about any store out there.
GPS Nation's Take
There isn’t much to look at between the GPSMAP 64s and the 64st. If you absolutely need TOPO maps in your quest to conquer the world’s terrain, then the added memory and the highly detailed built in maps that come with the 64st would surely interest you.
The most compelling reason to get the unit outside of the built in TOPO maps is the added memory space. Garmin bumped up the memory from 4GB to 8GB, essentially allowing for any map of your choosing to comfortably fit the unit.
