Overview
Garmin GPSMAP 923 Marine Chartplotter with Ultra High-Definition Sonar
Introduction
The Garmin GPSMAP 923 (010-02366-00) combines advanced marine navigation technology with integrated scanning sonar in a single touchscreen unit designed for saltwater and freshwater boating. This chartplotter delivers precise positioning, real-time sonar imaging, and intuitive chart navigation that helps captains locate structure, identify fish, and maintain safe course in any water condition. Whether you're running offshore, navigating inland waterways, or competing in a race, the GPSMAP 923 provides the situational awareness serious boaters need.
Key Features
- Ultra High-Definition SideVü and ClearVü scanning sonar with color-coded target distinction for superior fish and structure identification
- 50% more pixels than previous-generation displays, delivering enhanced pixel density for improved readability in direct sunlight and variable lighting
- Preloaded BlueChart g3 coastal charts and LakeVü g3 inland maps with integrated Garmin and Navionics content
- OneHelm digital switching technology enabling integration with multiple marine engines and third-party onboard systems
- Built-in Wi-Fi with ActiveCaptain app compatibility for remote monitoring, intelligent notifications, and automatic software updates
- SailAssist features including dynamic laylines, race start line countdown guidance, and real-time wind data overlays for competitive sailing
Data Insights
The GPSMAP 923's advanced sonar architecture improves fish identification accuracy by up to 30% compared to standard sonar systems, enabling anglers to distinguish between game fish, baitfish, and bottom structures with greater confidence. The enhanced display optics provide a 50% increase in screen pixel density, allowing captains to read critical navigation data, water temperature, and waypoint information with minimal eye strain—even in glare-prone environments typical of open water conditions.
Usage Instructions
Mount the chartplotter securely in your boat's helm using the provided marine-grade bracket system, then connect to your vessel's 12 or 24-volt power supply. Power on and initialize GPS position acquisition, which typically establishes a fix within 30 seconds. Use the responsive touchscreen to zoom and pan preloaded charts, create and navigate to waypoints, and toggle between sonar views. Connect via the ActiveCaptain app over Wi-Fi to receive automated software and cartography updates, which ensures your charts and features remain current with the latest navigational data.
Design & Material
The GPSMAP 923 features a compact, modern bezel design that integrates seamlessly into contemporary boat consoles while maintaining the durability required for continuous marine exposure. The unit combines rigid construction with a streamlined profile, balancing protective engineering with practical space efficiency.
- Marine-grade housing materials engineered to resist saltwater corrosion and UV degradation
- Anti-glare IPS display panel for clear visibility from wide viewing angles and in bright, reflective marine environments
- Weather-resistant design that protects internal electronics from moisture, spray, and temperature fluctuations
- Robust stainless steel mounting bracket system that secures the unit under dynamic boat motion and wake conditions
- Lightweight construction enabling straightforward dash installation without requiring extensive reinforcement
- Recessed screen and button design that reduces accidental impact damage and provides ergonomic finger access during active navigation
Final Verdict
The Garmin GPSMAP 923 delivers professional-grade marine navigation, sonar imaging, and sailing features in a single integrated unit backed by Garmin's commitment to marine electronics. If you fish structured water, race under sail, or navigate demanding coastal and inland routes, the combination of Ultra High-Definition sonar, pixel-dense displays, and preloaded cartography justifies the investment immediately. Choose the GPSMAP 923 to navigate with the clarity, precision, and confidence that separates competent seamanship from guesswork.
