Overview
Garmin GT23M-TH Through-Hull CHIRP Transducer for Coastal and Offshore Fishing
Introduction
The Garmin GT23M-TH is a dual-frequency through-hull transducer designed for anglers who need both traditional CHIRP sonar and high-definition structure imaging in a single installation. By combining mid-band sonar with CHIRP ClearVü scanning technology, this transducer delivers the underwater clarity required to locate individual fish, distinguish them from structure, and map bottom contours with near-photographic detail—critical advantages when fishing coastal reefs, offshore ledges, or deeper drop-offs where fish behavior depends on precise structural understanding.
Key Features
- Mid-band CHIRP traditional sonar operating at 80–160 kHz frequency range for clear fish detection and arch formation
- 600 watts power output on traditional sonar channel for extended range and penetration in varying water conditions
- CHIRP ClearVü scanning sonar with dual frequencies at 260 kHz and 455 kHz for high-resolution bottom and structure imaging
- 500 watts scanning power dedicated to ClearVü performance, generating detailed underwater detail and target clarity
- Through-hull mounting design providing stable signal transmission and reliable sonar performance without affecting vessel hull integrity
- 8-pin connector interface enabling seamless integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters and dedicated sonar systems
- Stainless steel stem construction delivering corrosion resistance in saltwater environments with long-term durability
- Superior target separation capability allowing individual fish identification separate from bottom structure and debris
Data Insights
The GT23M-TH's dual sonar approach produces measurable advantages in fish detection accuracy and structure definition. Traditional CHIRP sonar at 80–160 kHz operates at lower frequencies that penetrate deeper water and longer ranges typical of coastal and offshore fishing, while the 260 kHz and 455 kHz ClearVü elements provide the high-frequency sensitivity needed for fine detail and crisp bottom imaging. With 600 watts allocated to traditional sonar and 500 watts to ClearVü scanning, the transducer maintains balanced power distribution between depth coverage and structural clarity, allowing anglers to identify productive bottom features and track moving fish targets simultaneously on compatible Garmin display systems.
Usage Instructions
Install the GT23M-TH through the hull following supplied installation guidelines, positioning the transducer to optimize signal transmission and avoid contact with the vessel's interior structure or moving components. Connect the 8-pin connector to a compatible Garmin chartplotter or dedicated sonar unit, then configure sonar settings to match your fishing depth and water temperature. Activate both traditional CHIRP and ClearVü imaging modes to gain comprehensive underwater visibility. Begin with traditional sonar to locate fish activity and depth zones, then engage ClearVü scanning to examine bottom structure, identify obstacles, and confirm target locations. Adjust sensitivity and gain settings based on water clarity and bottom composition for peak performance in your specific fishing environment.
Design & Material
The GT23M-TH features a streamlined stainless steel through-hull housing engineered to endure continuous saltwater exposure and harsh marine conditions. Its corrosion-resistant construction and rugged stem design provide reliable long-term performance without maintenance-related signal degradation. The transducer's compact profile minimizes hydrodynamic impact while maintaining optimal sonar signal quality across both frequency bands.
- Durable stainless steel stem resisting saltwater corrosion and extended UV exposure
- Through-hull mounting system providing stable installation and noise-free signal transmission from hull to sonar processor
- Dual-element transducer design integrating traditional CHIRP and ClearVü sonar within single through-hull housing
- 8-pin connector featuring reliable electrical interface and positive locking mechanism for secure Garmin system connection
- Compact streamlined housing minimizing drag and turbulence in saltwater environments
- Engineered beam angle and frequency separation optimizing fish detection at mid-range depths typical of coastal and offshore fishing applications
Final Verdict
The Garmin GT23M-TH eliminates the compromise between range and detail that plagues single-frequency transducers. By pairing 600-watt traditional CHIRP sonar with dedicated CHIRP ClearVü scanning, it delivers the dual-vision capability serious coastal and offshore anglers require to locate structure, identify fish, and confirm catches before committing to a fishing spot. Whether you're targeting deep reef structures, mapping offshore ledges, or working shallow coastal zones, the GT23M-TH's corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction and 8-pin integration into Garmin's sonar ecosystem provide the imaging accuracy and system reliability that justify through-hull installation. Upgrade your sonar capability with the GT23M-TH and transform how you read underwater terrain and track fish activity in saltwater environments.
