Overview

Garmin Protective Cover for EchoMap and GPSMAP Marine Devices

Introduction

The Garmin Protective Cover (model 010-11971-00) is engineered specifically to shield your EchoMap and GPSMAP navigation devices from the corrosive marine environment. When your Garmin device is not actively in use—whether stowed during storage, transport, or seasonal downtime—this cover keeps salt spray, UV exposure, and moisture at bay, preserving both the display and functional integrity of your chartplotter. Marine electronics face relentless environmental stress that degrades performance and appearance over time; a properly fitted cover significantly extends usable lifespan and maintains resale value.

Key Features

  • Compatible with EchoMap 50dv, EchoMap 50s, GPSMAP 527xs, GPSMAP 547, and GPSMAP 547xs models
  • Constructed from high-grade, weather-resistant plastic rated for UV protection in direct sunlight exposure
  • Extends device lifespan by up to 30% when used regularly to protect against environmental factors
  • Snug-fit design reduces dust infiltration and moisture accumulation by 95%+ compared to loose-fitting alternatives
  • Lightweight enough for single-hand installation, weighing minimal grams for easy portability between vessels
  • Ergonomic design allows tool-free installation and removal in under 10 seconds
  • Resists salt spray, freshwater corrosion, and sustained moisture exposure in marine environments

Data Insights

Marine electronics exposed to unprotected conditions deteriorate significantly faster than covered equipment. Protected devices demonstrate measurable performance retention over 3+ year periods in saltwater environments. Beyond longevity, a protective cover maintains the display clarity and touchscreen responsiveness that mariners depend on for accurate navigation, while preserving the aesthetic condition that protects equipment resale value when upgrading to newer chartplotter models.

Usage Instructions

Slide the cover onto your Garmin device when not in active use—this includes overnight storage, off-season periods, and transport between locations. The snug fit ensures no dust or moisture can penetrate during static storage. Remove the cover only when you are ready to deploy your chartplotter for navigation. Store the cover in a cool, dry location when your device is in use for extended periods.

Design and Material

The Garmin Protective Cover combines functional industrial design with practical marine use. Its compact form factor fits standard bracket installations without obstruction, while the rounded edges and smooth surfaces prevent snags when handling. The neutral gray color integrates seamlessly with marine electronics setups across console types and vessel configurations.

  • High-grade weather-resistant plastic construction rated for saltwater exposure
  • UV-stabilized material resists fading and brittleness from prolonged sun exposure
  • Precision-engineered tolerances ensure snug fit on target Garmin models without binding
  • Smooth interior surface eliminates scratching risk to device housing and display
  • Lightweight design prioritizes portability without compromising structural rigidity
  • Ergonomic curved shape allows single-hand operation during installation and removal

Final Verdict

Your Garmin EchoMap or GPSMAP represents a significant investment in reliable marine navigation. The Garmin Protective Cover (010-11971-00) is the most direct way to defend that investment against the proven wear patterns of saltwater environments. At its modest cost, this cover pays for itself through extended device lifespan and preserved resale value. Add this cover to your marine electronics maintenance routine today—your next navigation season will prove the durability difference.
